Turkiye commences a safeguards investigation on imports of steel wire rods

On 3 November 2023, Turkiye’s General Directorate of Imports of the Ministry of Commerce (“Ministry of Commerce”) initiated a safeguard investigation into imports of steel wire rods. The petition for this safeguards investigation was filed by the Turkish Steel Producers Association (“Petitioner”).

In the investigation, the Ministry of Commerce will examine whether the increase in imports of steel wire rods is causing, or is threatening to cause, serious injury to the domestic industry.

The Petitioner has alleged that there has been an extraordinary increase in imports of steel wire rods between January to August 2023. Notably, the Petitioner also alleged that the import of steel wire rods from Malaysia saw an 82.2% increase in August 2023, reaching 17,825 metric tons.

Any interested parties, including exporters, should provide their responses to the Ministry of Commerce within 30 days. This deadline may be extended for an additional 10 days upon the request of the interested parties.
