European Desk

Skrine is a full-service law firm with a depth of experience in a comprehensive range of legal services. We are one of Malaysia’s largest law firms and the sole Malaysian member of the following international networks of law firms which allows us to support our clients globally:

Skrine has had a long and successful relationship with clients from Europe since its formation in 1963. To better serve the needs of European companies, we have established a European Desk headed by Dr. Harald Sippel, an Austrian qualified lawyer licensed by the Bar Council of Malaysia to practise as a foreign lawyer in Malaysia.

To enable seamless and efficient delivery of our services to multilingual Europe, apart from English (which all our lawyers are proficient in), our European Desk will be able to assist clients in French, German and Italian languages.

Through Skrine’s European Desk, clients from Europe benefit from our knowledge and expertise on how businesses in the region operate. We also offer extensive experience and support as you navigate various cultural, legal and regulatory issues including advising on pitfalls that foreign investors should avoid and how relationships with local partners are typically managed.

With Dr. Sippel’s over-a-decade of experience in the region and his “East and West” cultural knowledge and understanding, Skrine is well placed to advise and provide practical guidance to clients from Europe on strategic investment and trade decisions. Further, his civil law qualification together with his admission as a foreign lawyer in Malaysia places Skrine in a unique position where we can offer clients from Europe the benefit of receiving comprehensive and holistic support on both civil and common law in their dealings in Malaysia, where the common law system is practised.

Our practice areas which may be of particular interest to European businesses are:
  • Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions (“M&A”)
  • Compliance
  • Employment
  • Intellectual Property and Technology, Media & Telecommunications (“TMT”)
  • Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution including Arbitration & Adjudication
  • Competition law
  • Fraud, Investigations and Asset Recovery
  • Restructuring, Business Closure and Insolvency
  • Construction and Engineering
  • Shipping and Aviation
