MyCC Seeks Feedback on Market Review of Five Food Items

Following the completion of its study on the food sector, the Malaysia Competition Commission (‘MyCC’) has published a Draft Final Report on its Market Review on Food Sector in Malaysia under the Competition Act 2010 (‘Draft Report’) on 3 June 2019.

The market review focuses on five selected food items, namely infant milk powder, ikan kembung (Indian mackerel), beef, sawi (mustard leaf), and kubis bulat (round cabbage) and seeks to determine whether any feature or combination of features of the market prevents, restricts or distorts competition in the market.

Before finalising its findings and publishing its final report, MyCC proposes to conduct a series of public consultations and invites the public to participate in the consultations by contributing opinions, inputs and ideas on the market review.

The public are invited to submit their feedback and comments in writing to MyCC before 5.00 p.m. on 3 July 2019. Physical public consultations will also be held on 18 June 2019 in Putrajaya for government officials and 20 June 2019 in Kuala Lumpur for industry players to provide their comments. Details of the time and venue of the physical consultation sessions and the email address to which written comments are to be submitted are available on the MyCC website.

A softcopy of the Draft Report is available on the MyCC website at www.mycc.gov.my from 3 June 2019 to 3 July 2019.
