Turkiye commences safeguards investigation on knitted or crocheted fabrics

On 12 January 2024, Turkiye’s General Directorate of Imports of the Ministry of Commerce (“Ministry of Commerce”) initiated a safeguards investigation into imports of knitted or crocheted fabrics under Chapter 60 of the Turkish Customs Tariff Schedule. The petition for this safeguards investigation was filed by a domestic producer.

Turkiye’s Ministry of Commerce will examine whether the increase in the imports of knitted or crocheted fabrics is causing, or is threatening to cause, serious injury to the domestic industry. During the period analysed, there has been a negative trend in certain economic indicators, such as domestic sales, production and capacity utilisation of the producers of the like products. Overall, the information available shows that there has been a deterioration in the domestic industry.

Further, the information available shows that Malaysia is one of the top three countries from which imports of the knitted or crocheted fabrics to Turkiye had increased in the year 2023.

Any interested parties should provide their responses to the General Directorate within 30 days from 12 January 2024, which may be extended upon the request of the interested parties.
