Yesterday, Skrine joined Mandiant (part of Google Cloud) and Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) at Google’s Kuala Lumpur office for an energising afternoon discussion on “Cyber Risk & Data Privacy: Trends and Strategies for 2026.” With cyber threats growing more sophisticated, this conversation could not have been more timely.
The session kicked off with “Tales from the Trenches”, where Logesh, Incident Response Manager at Mandiant, shared real-world experiences dealing with hackers and cybercriminal groups, offering a candid look at what incident response actually looks like when organisations are under attack. Jeremy Lua, Special Counsel, and Christoph Ritzer, Co-Head of Cybersecurity at NRF, brought in global perspectives, leveraging their experience in managing cyber incidents across jurisdictions, while our Partner and Head of Privacy and Data Protection,
Jillian Chia, unpacked the Malaysian legal and regulatory landscape, including breach reporting obligations and challenges under the Cyber Security Act and recent PDPA updates.
Later, Vincent Lim, Mandiant Consulting Leader, joined the panel for a lively closing discussion on ransom demands, where the audience was walked through what ransom negotiations and payments look like in practice, and the tough strategic calls organisations often face in these moments.
Thank you to everyone who joined us.
