Sharon Chong, had the privilege of moderating a panel session at the inaugural Malaysia Cross-Border Insolvency Conference 2025 of the Malaysia Department of Insolvency (“MDI”) on 25 February 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Themed "Navigating Cross-Border Insolvency: Challenges & Prospects for Malaysia," the conference gathered key stakeholders and industry leaders to discuss the complexities and future direction of cross-border insolvency law. The Director General of Insolvency of the MDI, YBhg. Datuk M. Bakri Abd. Majid, delivered the welcome address and the keynote address was delivered by YB Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform).
Sharon led the session titled "What’s Next for Cross-Border Insolvency Law in Asia?" — a dynamic discussion among esteemed panel speakers comprising court justices from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and South Korea where they shared their insights and explored the current legal frameworks across jurisdictions, the challenges faced by insolvency practitioners and judiciary in handling cross-border insolvency cases, and the reciprocity approaches to foster greater cooperation and harmonisation in the region.
