Harmonising Disputes: An Evening of Arbitration and Jazz

In the run up to the event, Harmonising Disputes: An Evening of Arbitration and Jazz, sceptics questioned the compatibility of arbitration and jazz with one wit suggesting the next event should be “An Evening of Laser Tag and Corporate Restructuring”. At Simply Jazz last night Skrine proved the sceptics wrong with stellar performances by: Skrine’s Kumar Kanagasabai, Leng Sun Chan, SC of Duxton Hill Chambers, and the Michael Veerapen Trio. How many of the attendees came for the legal insight and how many for the jazz band we may never know, but every performance was met with enthusiastic appreciation.

Leng Sun and Kumar generously shared their wisdom on how to maximise the chances of recovery when an arbitration clause is in play. As a senior partner in Skrine’s Dispute Resolution team, Kumar regularly advises clients on the most strategic method of recovery, and the tools that can be used to freeze and trace assets domestically and internationally - crucial considerations before commencing any legal action.

A special mention must go to the Michael Veerapen Trio and lead singer Ryan Pynam, whose incredible performance elevated the evening far beyond the bounds of a typical legal event. Classic combination or not, the level of talent both legal and musical ensured this unique event was a resounding success.

Our thanks to the speakers, attendees and Simply Jazz for making this event happen.
