Webinar | Skrine x KPUM: Legal Writing & Drafting

On 9 March 2022, Skrine was invited by the United Kingdom & Ireland Malaysian Law Students’ Union (KPUM)  to conduct a webinar titled “Legal Writing and Drafting” for over 180 Malaysian law students.

Our Partner, Nimalan Devaraja, moderated the two-hour session during which Senior Associate, Rachel Chiah and Associate, Elizabeth Goh gave their respective insights on legal drafting. Our lawyers presented on the framework and features of non-contentious and contentious legal drafting, which included the types of documents they would draft, the process and challenges of legal drafting, and tips and tricks on improving. They also shared stories on their personal experience and key takeaways from the same, as well as addressed several questions posed by the participants.

The participants then engaged in an interactive exercise in which they had the opportunity to review and comment on the drafting of a sample contract as well as sample written submissions which we had prepared. It was a lively session, with the participants eagerly contributing their thoughts and suggestions on how best to address issues in the sample documents. We were delighted to hear the students’ feedback was overwhelmingly positive with the students’ mentioning, among others, that the webinar had been helpful and informative. We look forward to meeting these future lawyers in legal practice soon!

Skrine would like to thank the United Kingdom & Ireland Malaysian Law Students’ Union (KPUM) for organising this event and for inviting us to collaborate with them.
