Our Partners, Khoo Guan Huat and Sharon Chong were invited to speak at the UM-SIAC Joint Lecture & Panel Discussion on 31 October 2022, jointly organised by Singapore International Arbitration Centre and the Faculty of Law of University of Malaya. The theme of the event was “Arbitration through the Ages”. The event was held in-person with live streaming.
 
The event was opened by Dean Dato’ Associate Professor Dr Johan Shamsuddin Sabaruddin, followed by the keynote speech and lecture delivered by Chan Leng Sun SC. Guan Huat and Sharon spoke alongside Leng Sun and Lim Tuck Sun in the panel discussion that was moderated by Crystal Wong. The panellists shared their thoughts and views on the evolution and development of arbitration in Malaysia including recent amendments to the Arbitration Act 2005 such as the repeal of section 42, and the general approach to arbitration taken by the judiciary. They also shared anecdotes and their experiences dealing with the more recent innovations in arbitration such as the use of technology and remote hearings. The topics of green arbitration and diversity were also discussed by the panel.
