SKRINE + AIAC: Connecting AIAC I-Arbitration Rules 2021 With the Industry

On 19 August 2022, SKRINE had its first physical event with clients post-pandemic. Together with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (“AIAC”), SKRINE conducted a talk entitled “SKRINE + AIAC: Connecting AIAC I-Arbitration Rules 2021 With the Industry” at its offices. The talk was attended by SKRINE’s clients and lawyers, as well as AIAC’s representatives. The emcees for the event were Anita Natalia and Arif Umar Faruq Bin Faiz.

The opening speech was delivered by Ivan Loo, the Head of the Dispute Resolution Division. This was followed by a speech on the drafting history of the AIAC i-Arbitration Rules by the Deputy Director of the AIAC, Datuk Dr. Prasad Sandosham Abraham. Then, Michelle Sunita Kummar, AIAC's Head of Legal, presented on the convergence of the AIAC's Arbitration Rules and i-Arbitration Rules 2021. Finally, AIAC’s International Case Counsel, Sayf Eddine Essadik, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the "Nuts and Bolts" of the AIAC i-Arbitration rules.

Thereafter, a thought-provoking roundtable discussion took place, in which SKRINE’s partners, Mubashir Mansor and Sharifah Shafika Alsagoff were on the panel. The roundtable discussion was eloquently moderated by Lim Koon Huan, the Deputy Head of the Dispute Resolution Division. The roundtable discussion covered several key parts of the i-Arbitration Rules, including the ability to refer certain points to the relevant Shariah Council and Shariah-compliant third-party funding. The event concluded with an open Q&A session, where there was considerable engagement and interaction from the audience.

After the talk, SKRINE hosted the attendees for an early dinner.

SKRINE would like to express its profound gratitude to all the attendees for their support in making the event a successful one.

The organising committee for this event comprised of Anita Natalia, Kalaiarasan Rasadurai, Raja Nadhil Aqran, Tommy Lim Ka Hui and Vishnu Vijandran.
