Skrine x Project ID: Young Educators Challenge 2021

Our Senior Associate, Rachel Chiah, recently volunteered to be a Mentor in Project ID’s Young Educators Challenge (YEC), a nationwide virtual competition in which secondary school students are tasked to design and conduct their ideal online lesson. This year saw 30 shortlisted teams coming from various schools across all states in Malaysia took part.

Rachel was paired with Team 29, one of the ‘Wildcard Teams’ that win a spot in the competition by emerging as the top participants in the YEC Bootcamp. Team 29 comprised some of the youngest participants: Lai Han Zhe and Amirtasinii a/p Navanithan (Form 2, SMJK Sin Min Kedah) as well as Nur Syauqin binti Samsudin (Form 3, SABK Madrasah Khairiah, Penang). For two weeks, she had mentoring sessions and practice runs with the team for their lesson on “Kesultanan Melayu Melaka”. Their lesson was conducted on Sunday, 26 September, with the team presenting the topic to over 40 students using power point slides, video, and an interactive murder mystery game. It was an extremely creative and fun session, and the team gave an impressive performance that received high praise from the judges.

It was a rewarding experience getting to know these talented and driven students, and Skrine looks forward to being a part of such a great initiative again in 2022!
