Debating and Public Speaking Workshop in collaboration with Teach For Malaysia

On 11 August 2018, our Social Responsibility Unit in collaboration with Teach For Malaysia organized a Debating and Public Speaking workshop for 35 students from SMK Pendamaran Jaya in Klang, which is a TFM-aided school.

The team of Skrinees were Trishelea Sandosam, Nicholas Lai, Hwee Yong Neo, Yang Shuh Gooi, Tan Wei Liang, Rachel Chiah, Rui Rong Lam, Julia Chow, Anita Natalia and Beatrice Ban.

The day kicked off with an introduction session on the legal profession, where the students, comprising Fourth and Fifth Formers were given an insight about Skrine, and the pathway to pursuing a career in the legal profession.

We then proceeded with the public speaking workshop where each group of students sent their representatives to deliver a speech entitled, “This is my Malaysia.” We continue with the debating workshop titled “This House believes that secondary school students should be allowed to bring smartphones to school”. Both teams and the Best Public Speaker were given gold medals, and Skrine goodie bags as prizes.

Despite the long day, the students remained brimming with energy. It truly was a Saturday well spent!
