Welcoming the Year of the Rat

On 6 February 2020, Skrine ushered in the year of the rat with a traditional and exciting lion dance performance.

We welcomed the ‘lions’ into our premises with mandarin oranges and lettuces arranged decoratively on a tray at the centre of the room on each level of our 5-level offices. The ‘lions’ went around from one floor to another and did its ‘plucking of greens’ or ‘cai qing’ dance. In Chinese, ‘cai‘ can mean ‘pluck’ and ‘qing’ is ‘greens’ or ‘fortune’.

The Chinese New Year celebration may have passed but we would still like to wish everyone Gong Xi Fa Chai and may you have a prosperous year ahead!

Fact: Did you know that in 2007, lion dance is also listed as a national cultural heritage of Malaysia?
