Covid-19: Malaysian Government extends Movement Control Order to 14 April 2020

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin bin Yassin, announced this afternoon that the Movement Control Order (‘MCO’) implemented throughout Malaysia from 18 to 31 March 2020 to contain the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus will be extended to 14 April 2020.

Hence, the various measures announced on 16 March 2020 will remain in force until the end of the extended period of the MCO.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin added that the duration of the MCO will be reviewed from time to time and if necessary, be further extended.

The Prime Minister also reiterated that he will be announcing details of an Economic Stimulus Package on Friday, 27 March 2020 that will benefit everyone.[1]

Tan Sri Muhyiddin also called on all charity organisations in Malaysia to rise to the occasion to help the needy regardless of race and religion during this trying period.

[1] It is unclear whether this Economic Stimulus Package is the same as the Economic Stimulus and People’s Aid Package that the Prime Minister said on 23 March 2020 that will be announced on 30 March 2020.
