The long-anticipated
Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024, gazetted earlier this year on 2 February 2024, has now come into force on 1 October 2024
1. The Act regulates, among others, the registration, sale, packaging, and labelling of tobacco products, smoking substances and substitute tobacco products. It also prohibits the sale of any regulated product and provision of smoking related services to minors.
Several subsidiary regulations and orders have also been introduced and take effect simultaneously with the Act. These include the following:
At the same time, the Food (Amendment) Act 2024 has come into force to remove all provisions relating to tobacco and tobacco products in the Food Act 1983, and the Control of Tobacco Product Regulations 2004 and the Declaration of Non-Smoking Area Notifications made under the Food Act 1983 have been revoked.
