The Allied Health Professions Act 2016 (‘the Act’) provides for the registration and regulation of persons practising the profession of allied health, that is any profession which has a direct or an indirect effect on patient care, or on the health of an individual or the population (“Allied Health Professions”).
 
The list of Allied Health Professions that are regulated under the Act is set out in the Second Schedule thereof. The original Second Schedule (“Original Second Schedule”) has been replaced by a new Second Schedule (“New Second Schedule”) pursuant to the Allied Health Professions (Amendment of Second Schedule) Order 2022 [P.U.(A) 72/2022] with effect from 24 March 2022.
 
The Original Second Schedule contained a list of 23 Allied Health Professions. The list has now been reduced to 16 categories under the New Second Schedule, which are as follows: 

The profession of Medical Laboratory Scientist has been added to the list of Allied Health Professions under the New Second Schedule whilst the following eight categories of Allied Health Professions under the Original Second Schedule have been removed from the New Second Schedule:
