The Content Code 2022 has officially been registered

The Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (“Content Forum”) has announced the registration of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Content Code 2022 (“Content Code”). The Content Code was officially registered and is stated to be effective from 30 May 2022.

In our previous Alert, we highlighted some of the proposed revisions contained in the  Public Consultation on the Communications and Multimedia Content Code Revamp 2021 (“Consultation Paper”). The Content Forum has stated that the Content Code contains best practices, particularly on advertising. The improvements involve eight key issues including misuse of religion in advertising, rights of children in advertising, rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), ethical reporting of suicide cases, prohibition against online abuse and gender-based violence, counterfeit content and its impact on society, regulation of influencers and e-commerce players and as well as regulation of paid advertisements by influencers and news outlets.

The Content Code 2022 can be found here. A full write up on the salient points of the newly registered Content Code will follow.
