World’s First Waqf Exchange Traded Fund Listed on Bursa Malaysia

The Eq8 FTSE Malaysia Enhanced Dividend Waqf1 ETF (“EQ8WAQF”) was listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad on 10 December 2024.
 
According to a press release issued by Eq8 Capital Sdn Bhd and Yayasan Waqf Malaysia on 10 December 2024, the EQ8WAQF is the world’s first Waqf-featured exchange traded fund. The press release also states that EQ8WAQF aims to distribute income annually with half of the income distribution to be allocated as Waqf assets and the remaining half payable to unitholders.
 
Encik Umar Alhadad, Executive Director of Eq8 Capital Sdn Bhd, shared, “EQ8WAQF exemplifies how an Islamic capital market product can be innovatively developed to integrate investment returns while fostering inclusivity, sustainability, and shared prosperity. Through democratised access on the Exchange, investors will have the opportunity to access and achieve dual impact investing goals from the Waqf ETF.
 
The listing of the world’s first exchange traded fund with Waqf features on Bursa Malaysia Securities is indeed a significant milestone for our Exchange.
