The operation of Parts XIV and XV of the Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Act 2020 (“
the Temporary Measures Act”) which was due to expire on 31 December 2021
1 has been extended to
22 October 2022 pursuant to the
Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) (Extension of Operation) (No. 3) Order 2021 [P.U.(A) 437/2021].
In essence, Parts XIV and XV of the Temporary Measures Act modify the Land Public Transport Act 2010 and Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act 1987 respectively and,
inter alia, confer discretion on the relevant authorities, upon the application of a licensee, to authorise a licensed vehicle to be used as a public service vehicle of another category or class. For example, authorisation may be given for a tourism vehicle to be used for public transportation. The application must be accompanied by additional insurance coverage for the vehicle.
Parts XIV and XV further provide that any authorisation given for a change of use shall be for a maximum duration of 12 months and may be subject to conditions.
With this extension, Parts XIV and XV will remain in operation for the same duration as the Temporary Measures Act, that is for a period of two years from 23 October 2020, being the date of its publication in the
Gazette.
