IP Bills Tabled in Parliament

The following Bills relating to Intellectual Property Rights have been tabled for second reading in Dewan Rakyat (lower house of the Malaysian Parliament) on 13 December 2021:-
- Patents (Amendment) Bill 2021
- Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2021
- Geographical Indications Bill 2021
The Patents and Copyright Amendment Bills set out substantial proposed amendments to the existing Patents Act 1983 and Copyright Act 1987 respectively, and the new Geographical Indications Bill is intended to replace the Geographical Indications Act 2000, to provide for the protection and registration of geographical indications in relation to goods.
