MM2H 3.0 Gaining Traction

In a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat (House of Representatives) of the Malaysian Parliament last week, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said that his Ministry has received 3,019 applications in the 9-month period from October 2024 until June 2025 since the third iteration of the Malaysia My Second Home (“MM2H”) programme was launched.

The Minister added that 48 applications were received under the Platinum category, 137 under the Gold category, 2,434 under the Silver category and 400 under the Special Economic Zone/ Special Financial Zone category1. Of these, 1,294 applicants have received their MM2H pass endorsements, comprising 19 participants under the Platinum category, 61 under the Gold Category, 1,020 under the Bronze Silver category and 194 under the Special Economic Zone/ Special Financial Zone category.

Datuk Seri Tiong elaborated that the MM2H programme has contributed RM839.9 million to the economy, including RM597.5 million in fixed deposits, RM237.2 million in real estate investments and RM5.2 million in participation fees.

It is heartening to see that the current iteration of the MM2H programme has been well received by non-Malaysians looking for a second home in the tropics.

It is to be noted that the statistics provided by the Minister may not include the applications received in relation to the territories of Sabah and Sarawak who run their own second home programmes.

1 The Special Economic Zone/ Special Financial Zone MM2H visa is aimed at increasing interest in the Forest City development in Johor, Malaysia. It has more attractive terms than the other MM2H visas. Amongst others, the fixed deposit requirement is significantly lower (US$65,000 for ages 21 to 49 and US$32,000 for ages 50 and above) as compared to the other MM2H visas (US$150,000 (silver tier), US$500,000 (gold tier) and US$1,000,000 (platinum tier)) and does not stipulate a minimum value for the mandatory purchase of property.
