Covid-19 Order revoked from 1 May 2025: Malaysia free from Covid-19

The Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) (Extension of Operation) (No. 2) Order 2024 [P.U.(A) 465/2024] (“Infected Local Areas Extension Order”), which extended the declaration of all States and Federal Territories of Malaysia as infected areas of the Covid-19 virus for the period 1 January 2025 to 30 June 2025, will be revoked with the coming into force of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) (Extension of Operation) (No. 2) (Revocation) Order 2025 [P.U.(A) 138/2025] on 1 May 2025.

The first Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) Order 2020 [P.U.(A) 87/2020] declared all States and Federal Territories of Malaysia as infected areas of the Covid-19 virus on 18 March 2020 in light of the implementation of the country’s first movement control order to control the spread of the Covid-19 virus. This Order had been extended on 16 occasions, culminating in the most recent extension under the Infected Local Areas Extension Order.

The revocation of the Infected Local Areas Extension Order marks a significant milestone for Malaysia as it signals that Malaysia is now free from the Covid-19 virus after more than five years of preventive measures and efforts to combat the pandemic.
