Sheba Gumis leads the firm’s tax practice and its corporate tax advisory offerings. She leverages on her extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions and corporate advisory work, to provide holistic legal and tax advice and guidance to clients on a spectrum of tax issues including tax incentives, corporate tax, permanent establishment, withholding tax, sales and service tax, stamp duty, and other related matters.
Preetha Pillai together with Manshan Singh manage the tax disputes portfolio and handle the full spectrum of revenue disputes whether before the Special Commissioners of Income Tax, the Customs Appeal Tribunal or through judicial review proceedings. They are both experienced litigators appearing at all levels of the Malaysian courts.
In the area of customs duties and trade remedies, Lim Koon Huan and Manshan Singh have acted in most major investigations in this jurisdiction. They regularly represent major foreign exporters and Malaysian importers in anti-dumping, safeguard and countervailing investigations, and have secured landmark exemptions and significantly reduced duties in multiple high-profile cases. Their experience extends to tariff classification disputes, regulatory compliance issues, valuation challenges and judicial review proceedings against customs and trade authorities—often involving highly technical and multi-jurisdictional issues.
Vijay Raj leads the firm's practice in local authority rates and assessments, having acted for many large companies with substantial property and infrastructure holdings. He has, amongst others, acted for numerous companies within the Petronas Group to challenge local authority valuations of their industrial and petrochemical facilities, and he has over the years, commenced several judicial review proceedings against related local authority decisions.
