Charmayne Ong Poh Yin was admitted as a partner of Skrine in 1996. She is a registered Patent Agent, Design Agent and Trade Mark Agent in Malaysia. She is a partner in the Intellectual Property division of Skrine and is in charge of both the trademarks registration practice group as well as the IT and E-Commerce practice group.
Charmayne’s areas of practice include managing the registration of trademarks and general advisory work relating to the classic forms of IP rights: trade mark, copyright, industrial design rights and patents. Her experience involves advising on and drafting of contracts in intellectual property (e.g licensing, franchising, distributorships, contract manufacturing and technology transfers). She is also familiar with IT and E-Commerce matters, having been involved in matters relating to e-commerce, Internet banking, Cyberlaws, communications and multimedia.
Selected Experience
- General advisory work on trademarks, copyright, design, patent and trade secrets
- Advising on and drafting of contracts in intellectual property related areas e.g licensing, franchising, distributorships and contract manufacturing
- Advising on governmental regulations in relation to transfer of technology and drafting technology transfer contracts
- Advising on matters relating to the Consumer Protection Act 1999 and product liability issues
- She has also been involved in certain major projects in Malaysia, e.g. the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), whereby she acted for a number of foreign IT companies in contract negotiations with the Government of Malaysia in respect of the Multimedia Flagship applications
- Assisting in the preparation of a series of advices concerning the construction of a coal/oil fired power station, and in consequent litigation
- Advising on IT and E-Commerce, drafting and negotiating IT contracts
