Preetha is a litigator with experience in a variety of practice areas. Having done numerous trials and hearing at all levels of the court system, she has consummate knowledge and experience in trial procedure and the rules of advocacy.

Her practice area is varied, from land disputes to negligence claims, she has acted for a myriad of clients, both individuals and corporations. A significant part of her portfolio is commercial litigation where she represents corporations, stock broking companies and banks.

Selected Experience

She has represented leading stock broking firms in suits involving losses caused by share market trading that was a direct result of the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. The losses, in multi millions were caused by trades done through nominee trading. The prosecution of these suits required extensive evidence gathering and analysis of the laws of agency, contract, companies and securities on issues ranging from market manipulation to fraud and breaches of the Securities Industries Act.

One of her main clients is also a national statutory institution created to absorb and recover the massive losses in the financial and stock broking industry caused by the Asian Financial Crisis.

She also works closely with one of the largest accounting firms in their liquidation exercise, focusing mainly on advising and aiding through litigation, the recovery process.

Her practice today has also extends to resisting judicial review proceedings filed against market regulators as well as advising and acting for them in their enforcement proceedings.
