Comparative Analysis: Malaysia and the UAE
Special Initiatives and Business Opportunities
The South Johor Investment Corporation and Jumeirah Capital will share its experience on the Iskandar Development Region ("IDR") and will look in particular at the initiatives taken by the Malaysian Government which led to  the recent announcement of an injection of investments worth RM4.1 billion from the Middle East into the IDR. The perspectives of Middle Eastern investors will be shared by Lex Mundi UAE law firm, Afridi and Angell and international law firm Herbert Smith.

Oil & Gas - Fueling the Economic Growth in Malaysia
US$34 billion has been set aside for the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) under the 12 year master-plan drawn-up by the Malaysian national oil company PETRONAS. A Hydrocarbon Hub is also being developed in thenorthern state of Kedah, which will include oil refineries, tank farms, oil transportation, a marine terminal and downstream petrochemical industrial complex.
A panel discussion will focus on the ECER's harnessing of its current strengths in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries and the investment potential of high value downstream processing and transportation activities. It will also address the tax regulations and structures of these special
vehicles relevant to investors in Malaysia.
